Why Your Neck Could Be The Hidden Cause of Your Headaches

Headaches can commonly be caused by irritated joints, muscles and nerves in your neck. Poor posture, weak core muscles and stress can all overload these small tissues in your neck, which then refer pain up into the head.

What to Expect During Your First Headache Treatment Session

Treatment involves identifying the exact joints or muscles that cause the headache. Then we use dry needling, massage and joint manipulation to release the tension. We follow this up with corrective core and posture exercises to offload the pressure from the joints.

Headache/Migraine FAQs

A cervicogenic headache will generally present at the base of the neck and refer to the back of the head, temporal and eye area on one side of the body. They will also have stiffness in the neck muscles. Other headaches will be felt more generally throughout the whole head area on both sides.
If you press on the muscles in your upper shoulder and neck area, they will often recreate a headache sensation. However, the pain can also come from the joints, so it is important to see a chiropractor to check if this is the source of your pain.
No, the treatment is generally very gentle and comfortable. If a patient is in a lot of pain or is more sensitive, then we use less intensive techniques to release tension, such as massage.
Yes, jaw dysfunction is a common cause of headaches and migraines. Clenching your jaw can wind up the tension in the upper neck and the muscles will then refer pain to the head.
